21/11/2016: NEW CONSUL GENERAL OF KOREA IN HAWAII CALLS ON PHL CONSUL GENERAL

Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin welcomed the new Consul General of the Republic of Korea to Hawaii, Mr. Young Hoon Kang, when the latter paid a courtesy visit to the Philippine Consulate General on November 18, 2016. Consul General Kang replaced Consul General Walter Paik who was recalled to his home office after a successful tour of duty. ConGen Young, as he would like to be called, was accompanied by Deputy Consul General Sun Soo Kim.

ConGen Kang said that the Korean government was very much impressed with SFA Yasay when the latter met bilaterally with ROK Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se on the sidelines of the ASEAN foreign ministerial meeting in Vientiane, Laos on July 25, 2016. During that meeting, the two top diplomats exchanged views on ROK-PH relations and ways to step up cooperation on economy and defense.

During the call of ConGen Kang, he said that he has also been assigned to the Korean Consulate in Vladivostok, Russia. ConGen Kang and ConGen Jamoralin were both assigned to Tokyo, Japan.

Consul General Jamoralin talked to Consul General Kang about their respective communities in Hawaii, and the former gave tips on the various functions that she attends to promote Philippine interests.

Consul General Jamoralin assured Consul General Kang of the Philippine Consulate General’s support and cooperation, emphasizing that the Republic of Korea is a very important economic and military partner of the Philippines. (END).
