To kick-start the month-long celebration of the 118th Anniversary of Philippine Independence in Hawaii, dubbed as “KKK: Kalayaan, Kultura, Kulinarya”, the Philippine Consulate General, together with the Philippine Celebrations Coordinating Committee of Hawaii (PCCCH) and the Hawaii Prince Hotel, held a media launch for the 2nd Filipino Food Fair on 5 June 2016 at the Prince Court Buffet of the Hawaii Prince Hotel.

The Filipino Food Fair, which covers the Kulinarya aspect of the KKK, will feature select and well-loved Filipino dishes, such as pancit, adobo, lumpia, lechon kawali and fish sarciado, in the Hotel’s award-winning daily buffet selections from 5 to 10 June 2016. Daily entertainment from Hawaii-based Filipino artists and performers will also be available for the restaurant’s patrons during the Filipino Food Fair.

The Food Fair will culminate in an Independence Day Gala on 11 June 2016 which will put a spotlight on the diversity and vibrancy of Filipino culture through a community concert entitled “Awit ng Inang Bayan”.

During the media launch, Consul General Jamoralin said that Filipino cuisine has taken centerstage and echoed a top food critic’s statement that it is “the next big thing” in America. She also said that the KKK is a community-driven event, with the Consulate serving as enabler and motivator for the Filipino community in Hawaii to come up with activities to celebrate Philippine Independence Day.

Consul General Jamoralin, together with Mr. Allan Alvarez, Chair of the PCCCH and Mr. Donn Takahahi, President of Hawaii Prince Hotel, also fielded questions from the media and other members of the Filipino community. The attendees were also served with samples of the Filipino dishes that will be part of the Filipino Food Fair. (END).
