Consul General Gina Jamoralin delivers her inspirational message to the Filipino Community during the event. C

On January 17, 2016, the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu joined parishioners, mostly Filipino Americans, in celebrating the feast of the Sto. Nino at the St. Anthony Parish in Kalihi, Hawaii. The celebration started with a Eucharistic celebration in the afternoon at the St. Anthony Church with main celebrant, Most Reverend Larry Silva, Bishop of Honolulu and with nine (9) FilAm priests as concelebrants led by Fr. Arnel Soriano, St. Anthony parish priest.

A Sto. Nino procession within the church vicinity with people chanting “Viva Senor Santo Nino” , a community dinner and program capped the afternoon’s celebration. The program was enlivened by Hula performances by pupils of St. Anthony and St. John’s Mililani schools and a Sinulog performance by the Visayan Community Sinulog Dancers.

Philippine Consul General Gina Jamoralin gave an inspirational message commending the Filipino community in keeping the religious tradition of honoring the Sto. Nino alive. She mentioned that the Sto. Nino celebration is a month-long celebration especially in the Visayan region through the Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo, Aklan; the Sinulog Festival in Cebu and Dinagyang in Ilo-ilo. Consul General Jamoralin recalled her highschool days in Kalibo, Aklan where she used to join the street dancing during the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival held every 3rd Sunday of January.

Bishop Larry Silva of Honolulu, who will be attending the 51st International Eurcharistic Congress in Cebu this month , also delivered an inspirational message. This year’s theme was “Christ in Us, our Hope of Glory”. (END)
