Press Release

(18 August 2015, Honolulu, Hawaii) Filipinos in the County of Maui availed themselves of the consular services extended by the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu during its two-day mobile consular outreach program from 15 to 16 August 2015 in Maui, Hawaii.

Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin led a consular team of seven (7) personnel to conduct the Consulate General’s second consular outreach to Maui this year. The team rendered a total of 233 consular services, 14 dual citizenship applications and 144 new registration for Filipino overseas voters in the island. The activity was held in coordination with the Immigrant Services Division of the County of Maui, and volunteers from the Filipino community.

While in Maui, Consul General Jamoralin met with officials from the University of Hawaii Maui College, led by its Chancellor Lui Hokoana, on 14 August to discuss the university’s larger plan to develop cultural and educational exchanges between UHMC and universities in the Philippines, particularly on these institutions’ hospitality, tourism, IT and nursing programs, to advance international understanding while providing more professional training opportunities for both faculty and students.

UHMC cites the Mapua Institute of Technology and the Mariano Marcos State University as two of the higher learning institutions in the Philippines with which it has a partnership. It seeks to broaden its reach by linking with other universities in Manila and in Visayas.

In response to the request by the Filipino community for another consular outreach activity before the year ends, the Philippine Consulate General intends to partner once more with the Immigrant Services Division, through the Deputy Director Jan Shishido of the Maui County Department of Housing and Human Concerns, for a third outreach activity, tentatively on 2-3 October 2015.
