16/06/2015: HAWAII’s 4th FYLPRO DELEGATE VISITS THE PHILIPPINE CONSULATE

Press Release

(16 June 2015, Honolulu, Hawaii) Hawaii State Representative Ty Cullen (District 39), and Hawaii’s delegate to the 4th Filipino American Youth Leadership Program (FYLPro), paid a courtesy call this morning on Philippine Consul General to Honolulu Gina A. Jamoralin at the Consulate General.

Representative Cullen is one of the ten exceptional young Filipino Americans throughout the United States who were selected to take part in the 4th FYLPRO from 2 to 8 July 2015 in the Philippines.

A project of Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose L. Cuisia Jr., the FYLPRO is an annual program which will afford the delegates the opportunity to meet and dialogue with the highest officials and policymakers in the Philippines, leaders of industry, media, cultural experts, business and social entrepreneurs, as well as innovators in different fields. One of the goals of this program is to tap young Filipino Americans to contribute and be engaged in their respective communities and to become partners in advancing the interests of Filipino Americans.

As a young Filipino American, my passion lies in fostering our community for the better, whether it is by working one-on-one with them to develop goals for success or educating others on how Filipinos play an integral role not only in Hawaii’s history but also in the United States’ history”, Representative Cullen stated in his application essay for the said program.

Before becoming a Hawaii legislator, Representative Cullen served his central Oahu community as a member of the Waipahu Neighborhood Board and the Village Park Community Association. He holds a BA degree in Sociology, a BA degree in Political Science, and a Masters degree in Public Administration.

During the courtesy call, Representative Cullen conveyed his appreciation for the Philippine Government for coming up with a unique program as the FYLPRO, and said that he looks forward to participating in the program.

Consul General Jamoralin gave him an overview of the FYLPRO, updates on the one-week program, and some useful tips and pointers for the duration of the program. END.
