20/08/2014: PH CONSULATE URGES FILIPINO-AMERICANS TO SUPPORT VIGAN CITY's BID AS ONE OF SEVEN WONDER-CITIES OF THE WORLD

Press Release

PH CONSULATE URGES FILIPINO-AMERICANS TO SUPPORT VIGAN CITY’S
BID AS ONE OF SEVEN WONDER-CITIES OF THE WORLD

(20 August 2014, Honoulu, Hawaii) The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu urges Filipinos under its jurisdiction to show their support for Vigan City in Ilocos Sur in its bid to become one of the New Seven Wonder-Cities of the World. The search is being organized by the New Seven Wonders Foundation – the same foundation that brought prestige to Puerto Princesa City’s Underground River. The foundation is currently looking for wonder-cities that aim to inspire and create awareness on the beauty of the world and to celebrate the seven symbols of unity that respect and honor the cultural diversity of our planet.

Given that almost 80% of Filipinos and Filipinos in Hawaii come from the Ilocos region, I am positive that we could garner an all-out support from our kababayans across the State for the Heritage City of Vigan,” Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin said.

Vigan City has recently qualified for the Top 21 Finalists for the said search. To make it to the finals, Vigan needs to qualify in two more elimination rounds:

  1. 2nd Elimination: 7 July to 7 October 2014; and
  2. 3rd Elimination: 7 October to 7 December 2014.
