12/06/2013: 2013 Independence Day Message of Consul General Julius D. Torres

My most heartfelt greetings of Aloha to the Filipino Community in Hawaii on the occasion of the celebration of the 115th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the theme “Kalayaan 2013: Ambagan Para sa Malawakang Kaunlaran.”

This year’s theme allows us to remember once again our forefathers, who, on 12 June 1898, bequeathed to us a new nation, which is hopeful, democratic and independent. The theme also calls each of us to contribute, in our own way, to our country’s nation-building efforts in our pursuit of progress and prosperity.

Today, we celebrate this proudest moment in our history as the foundation of our success. From this noble gift of independence, our new heroes, world-class pioneers and innovators, workers and entrepreneurs, athletes and artists who open doors for opportunities and lift the nation to the summits of success are born.

And most importantly, today, we honor our nation, our native land, for the challenges it has surmounted, for the successes it has achieved, and for the bright future it holds.

Muli, maligayang ika-isandaan at labinglimang taon ng pagdiriwang ng kalayaan ng Pilipinas. Mabuhay ang Pilipino! Mabuhay ang ating bayan!
